NEW YORK, NY, USA, December 9, 2018 / — Tamica Montilla reposts that consumer debt is at an all-time high, and more than one out of every 120 households in America has had someone file for bankruptcy. As a result, many consumers may have difficulty obtaining credit because of negative items on their credit reports.

Unfortunately, some credit repair businesses try to take advantage of consumers' credit problems by promising to clear up their credit record or to help them establish a clean, new record, charging them high fees for services the business cannot provide. Many of these large businesses make promises once you pay them a monthly fee that must continue for more than a year. The end result is one finds themselves with little to no improvement on their credit file.

Furthermore, even more in debt due to the payments being made to the credit companies.

Montilla states that state and federal laws give consumers the right to have inaccurate information corrected, or information that doesn't apply to a consumer removed from his or her credit report. But accurate negative information generally cannot be removed and is allowed to remain on a credit report for seven years. Bankruptcies remain for 10 years.

Tamica Montilla states that under most state law, "credit services organizations," more commonly known as credit repair companies, are defined as businesses that provide advice, assistance and services regarding improving a consumer's credit record or obtaining a loan or an extension of credit. Their ads typically claim that they can "Erase bad credit!" or "Clean up your credit report!" Although the majority of these companies cannot deliver what they promise, few of the smaller companies seem to deliver more measurable results.

Montilla states that to protect consumers from unscrupulous credit repair companies, many states prohibit these companies from asking for or taking any payment before the promised services are fully performed. Credit repair companies also are required to obtain a $100,000 bond and are registered with the Office of the Attorney General.

A few types of companies, including banks, real estate agents, attorneys, and some non-profit organizations are exempt from these provisions of state law.

Tamica Montilla further lists that credit repair organizations must give consumers they do business with all of the following:

* A written and dated contract with a detailed description of the services to be performed and the total charge for those services;

* A notice of the consumer's right to cancel the contract for any reason within five days from the date of the transaction;

Tamica states that credit repair organizations are generally different from "debt negotiators," although the same company may claim it can provide both services. Debt renegotiation companies often advertise that they will help consumers get out of debt by negotiating with a consumer's creditors to lower interest rates or payments or reduce the total amount a consumer owes. The Federal Department of Consumer Affairs today issued a consumer alert about these types of companies, some of which charge fees up front and then fail to renegotiate debts or pay creditors. Paralegal Training and Experience

Paralegals are a key component of an efficient law practice, and their role continues to expand. In fact, the job outlook (unlike for many other professions) is quite bright. Paralegals must undergo specific education, training and/or work experience and are utilized by many different employers, including individual practitioners, law firms, corporations and various government agencies. Different certifications and credentials are available to classify the Paralegal experience. In the traditional law firm setting, the Paralegal's time is primarily spent on substantive legal work which is billed to clients at market rates, similar to other professional staff, but at a significantly lower rate than would be charged had an Attorney been solely utilized to handle such work, as was standard in the past. This hourly billing option distinguishes Paralegals from other non-lawyer staff members. However, many legal or quasi-legal organizations do not specifically bill for Paralegal time, such as Real Estate Title Firms, Immigration Law Firms, or Bankruptcy practices. Thus, in many organizations, time spent on administrative or clerical functions is not billable to the client’s case.

Due to Ethical Rules, Paralegals will never completely replace Lawyers

Only licensed attorneys may give “legal advice” to clients, and ethical rules in all U.S. States are uniform that Paralegals are strictly prohibited from doing so. Paralegals also are prohibited from directly accepting a client’s case, setting any fees, or representing a client in court (unless specifically authorized by the court, see below). All U.S. States require attorneys to be licensed and most have regulations imposing strict penalties for anyone who engages in the unauthorized practice of law. In fact, there are rules requiring appropriate supervision of Paralegals.

The largest employers of Paralegals within the legal profession are, naturally, law firms. However, businesses, corporations and government are large Paralegal employers as well. Paralegals are found in every area work of legal practice, ranging from bankruptcy law practice, estate planning, litigation, personal injury law, and immigration.

Strong Need for Paralegals Continues

Doomsday talk persisted in the recent past that technology was set to fully replace the Paralegal industry as a result of software upgrades and automated advances. At least one major law firm today uses highly sophisticated software for research previously conducted by Paralegals and even Attorneys. Many predicted the end of the Paralegal profession. The Associated Press issued a report in 2013 which claimed that an increasing number of Attorneys were using software and other technologies to do the work previously performed by Paralegal staff. It is certainly true that such software and technologies can enable solo practitioners to handle most or all of their workload without the need for any Paralegal. However, in 2014 the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasted a continuing positive growth rate of 8 percent growth from 2014 to 2024, and then in 2016 readjusted that figure to a 15 percent growth from 2016 to 2026 – again documenting continued growth from its original projection.

This information is confirmed by the Occupational Information Network (O*NET), an online database that contains hundreds of occupational definitions to help job seekers, businesses and workforce development professionals to understand educational and occupational trends in today’s economy in the United States. O*NET was developed under the sponsorship of the US Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA) in the 1990s. According to O*NET, the future outlook for Paralegals is bright.

MEDFORD, OR, USA, December 7, 2018 / — Grown Rogue took home top honors from the Grow Classic held in Eugene, OR last weekend. The company was one of 31 elite growers from across the state of Oregon who entered the three-category competition, in which Grown Rogue took first place for Highest THC %, first place for Highest Terpenes % and third place in Growers Choice.

Grow Classic is an invitation-only competition hosted by Grow Magazine each November and bills itself as The Quintessential Cannabis Horticulture Competition. Thirty-one growers were provided with four clones from the same cultivar from the same mother plant, and invited to grow the best plants possible. For the Growers Choice award, only the participating growers themselves are the judges with blind labeled products– so there are no paid or potentially biased judges. The event awarded $15,000 in cash and over $5,000 in prizes to the winners.
