US Military Planes Move in S. Korea Amid Mideast Deployment Speculation
Flight tracking data indicated that C-5 and C-17 transport planes landed at Osan Air Base, south of Seoul, late last month and departed between Wednesday and Saturday of last week, as stated by reports citing real-time tracking websites.
At least two C-5 aircraft arrived at the base in late February and were observed departing on Saturday, February 28, and the following Monday, while C-17 aircraft left between Tuesday and Saturday, March 7, with six reportedly en route to Anchorage, Alaska.
These aircraft movements have fueled conjecture that US Forces Korea may be preparing to shift some Patriot missile batteries, which had recently been relocated to Osan from other American bases.
Previously, at least two Patriot batteries were sent to the Middle East last June during US strikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities, before returning to South Korea in October, according to reports.
