GreenMark Biomedical Secures Follow-On Regenerative Medicine Grant Funding
Up to $297,615 in additional funding to advance new forms of GreenMark's regenerative products for noninvasive mineralization of early-stage dental decay.
Dental caries (tooth decay) is the most prevalent chronic disease in the world and impacts more than 95% of Americans over their lifetimes. Left untreated, early enamel damage progresses into painful cavities that require invasive dental procedures. Current topical fluoride products can slow decay but are limited in their ability to restore enamel structure beneath the tooth surface, leaving teeth at risk of progression and cavitation. Dental sensitivity affects up to 74% of Americans and can be the source of discomfort during dental procedures. “At GreenMark we are developing a range of professional-use and over-the-counter products designed to reverse early decay by restoring enamel from the inside out. This targeted approach also provides relief from dental sensitivity,” explains co-inventor Dr. Nathan Jones, MSc, PhD, VP Technology for GreenMark and Co-Principal Investigator (PI) on the award.
GreenMark’s CrystLCare™ dental strips have provided the company with growing clinical and market experience with its targeted mineral-forming technology. Pilot evaluations have demonstrated rapid relief of dental sensitivity associated with gingival recession and dental procedures, including hygiene treatment, scaling and root planing, and tooth whitening. Clinical observations also provided radiographic evidence consistent with remineralization of early-stage caries lesions.
