FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Law Offices of Jason Turchin, a Florida personal injury and product liability law firm, is alerting consumers to the recall of about 1.5 million OCOOPA Rechargeable Hand Warmers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and importer Shenzhen Street Cat Technology Co., Ltd., dba OCOOPA Direct, announced the recall on July 30, 2026, because the lithium-ion battery can overheat and ignite. OCOOPA Direct has received 1,480 reports of overheating, resulting in 15 fires and 350 burn injuries, including the death of an 83-year-old consumer in San José, California. Because the warmers were sold for nearly eight years, many may still be in homes as people reach for them during colder months.

"A hand warmer is held in the hand and tucked into pockets and gloves, so a battery that overheats can cause serious burns very quickly," said Jason Turchin, Esq., a product liability and injury attorney. "Anyone who owns one of these warmers should stop using it, and anyone who was hurt may want to keep the device, the packaging, and photos of their injuries."

Which Hand Warmers Are Included

• Models UT3053, UT3056, ZLS-118, ZLS-118S, ZLS-118D, H01 and H01(PD)

• Where sold Amazon.com, Ocoopa.com, Ocoopa.net and Walmart.com from September 2018 through May 2026 for $15 to $60

• How to identify "OCOOPA" is printed on the top, and the model number and three-digit batch number are printed on the underside

• Design Dual-sided warmers sold in packs of two that join magnetically, with USB-C charging, LED indicator lights, and a silicone lanyard

What Consumers Should Do

1. Stop using the warmers The CPSC advises consumers to stop using the recalled products immediately.

2. Request a refund Write "RECALLED" in permanent marker on the warmer and submit a photo showing that marking, the model number, and the batch number through the Product Recall page on the OCOOPA website. Refunds are offered as an OCOOPA gift card or the original form of payment.

3. Dispose of the battery properly Do not place the device in the trash, curbside recycling, or retail battery recycling boxes. Call a local household hazardous waste center first to ask whether it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries.

4. Report incidents The CPSC urges consumers to report related incidents through its SaferProducts website.
